Independus is a registered charity providing free advice and information to all disabled people and their carers.
In order to do this we provide the following services at a reasonable fee:-
Access Audits
From a user perspective NOT from someone who may have attended a course some time ago, but who has no insight into living with a disability. We give a professional comprehensive report complete with photographs and conforming to the latest legal requirements.
Social Model of Disability & Disability Equality Training
We aim to explore the concept of people being disabled by society’s barriers and attitudes, highlighting the role of the organisation in the removal of those barriers and in the changing of attitudes. Our training includes customer care, etiquette and appropriate language.
Our training is delivered by Trustees of Independus.
Direct Payments/ Individual Budgets
We give free information and advice based on personal experience. We work alongside NYCC Adult & Community services and will complete the initial assessment on their behalf. We also offer support during and after the development of your personal care plan. (NYCC Adult & Community services pay us to provide this service)

All other services, such as filling in forms, Benefit advice and general advice are free to our members. Membership is also free.
