News » Tramper Tester Day - Aysgarth Falls
A bright sunny day saw five All terrain Vehicles lined up in the car park of Aysgarth Falls before setting off in rank and file across the road and down the path to view the lower falls.
This was the outcome of collaborative work between the Trustees of Independus, the centre for independent living in Hambleton & Richmondshire, a charity giving advice and information to disabled people and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Roy Emmerson & Roger Jenkinson,( Trustees) joined the Yorkshire Dales National Parks’ Access for All Forum which facilitated by Rachel Briggs, Access development officer, looks at innovative ways of improving access to the park.
Both were invited by YDNP to look at the electric all terrain vehicles currently employed by Lancashire County Council in their country parks.
Tom Robertshaw, agent for Tramper, kindly brought five vehicles for interested parties to test.
After a brief rundown of the controls & quick run about the car park all five set off with accompanying walkers and the obligatory dog.
The walk was over well maintained but rough path and fields with some inclines and a rocky section; with everyone on the trampers enjoying being off road, though the two ladies did complain that they were not fast enough!
After the test interested parties discussed the possibility of forming a working party to raise the funds to purchase at least two of these trampers so they may be hired by visiting disabled people at specific sites to allow them to enjoy the countryside more.
Rachel Briggs is looking at suitable sites where these trampers can be used effectively and safely.
The Access for All forum is open to any interested party wanting to help improve facilities for disabled people and new members are always welcome. They meet twice a year.
